Dr. Niven Huang was born and raised in Hualien and holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Chung Yuan Christian University. His expertise lies in the field of energy and industrial waste thermal treatment. In 1997, he transitioned into corporate sustainability and served as the Secretary General of BCSD Taiwan for 16 years. He is a pioneer in advancing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), corporate sustainability reporting, ESG, sustainable finance and responsible investment, carbon accounting and disclosure, environmental accounting, corporate sustainability strategy and carbon management, as well as social enterprise and social innovation in Taiwan. Dr. Huang has served on numerous sustainability-related committees in both the public and private sectors and often speaks domestically and internationally on corporate sustainability and ESG/CSR issues. He is currently the Managing Director of KPMG Sustainability Consulting Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of KPMG Taiwan. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Head of Climate Change and Sustainability Services for KPMG Asia Pacific, and from 2021 to 2023, he was the Head of ESG for KPMG Asia Pacific. He was also a judge for various awards related to environmental protection, sustainability, green design, innovation, entrepreneurship, and CSR in Taiwan. Since 2008, Dr. Huang has been an adjunct associate professor to teach Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development at several leading universities, including the MBA/EMBA programs at National Chengchi University, the Institute of Technology Management at National Tsing Hua University, and the Department of Cooperative Economics and Social Entrepreneurship at Feng Chia University. From 2012 to 2015, he also served as the founding Chair of ASrIA.

The current financial accounting system often hinders circular innovation by failing to reflect the full value of circular practices. In the short term, this challenge can be addressed through alternative value measurement approaches, while long-term solutions call for a fundamental redesign of accounting standards and frameworks.
